Heavy rainfall in Phayao has led to severe flooding, affecting over 400 households as flash floods swept through the area. Residents struggled to salvage their belongings, while local government officials rushed to assist.

Continuous heavy rains battered Phayao for several days, resulting in flash floods that inundated multiple areas. Early in the morning, flash floods surged into Ban Kue Wiang, Moo 1, and Ban Pin, Moo 7, in Nong Lom subdistrict, Dok Kham Tai district, Phayao province.

The deluge affected more than 400 homes, with roads in the village becoming impassable for small vehicles. This was the second instance of flash floods in the area within a short period. The combination of continuous rain and the volume of water contributed to the swift and overwhelming nature of the flood.

The floodwaters, arriving in the early dawn hours, caught many off guard, leaving them with little time to react. Local administrative officers, municipal staff, and village leaders were quick to survey the damage and provide necessary aid to the affected residents.

The northern region of Thailand, particularly Phayao, has been experiencing persistent heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 70% of their usual precipitation in a matter of days. While other regions, including Bangkok, have reported sporadic rainfall, the situation in Phayao remains critical.

Severe damage

The floodwaters have yet to recede significantly, with some areas still submerged and at risk of further flash floods, especially those near canals where water continues to accumulate. Local officials are maintaining a vigilant watch over these vulnerable spots to prevent additional damage.

The relentless downpour has saturated the land, leaving little room for new rainfall to be absorbed, exacerbating the flooding situation.
