A colossal python, exceeding 4 metres in length and as thick as a leg, caused a scare in a chicken coop in Surin‘s Khuha Sawan subdistrict.

The incident occurred on November 2, leading to the rousing of a rescue team from the Ban Raeng Subdistrict Municipality to assist.

The rescue workers, equipped with venomous animal-handling tools, responded swiftly to aid at the scene. The location was a two-story wooden house adjacent to a paddy field, numbered 51 in Moo 6, Ban Raeng Subdistrict, Khuha Sawan District.

Beside the house was a chicken coop where the enormous python was found, its length exceeding 4 metres and its body as thick as a leg. The snake was precariously positioned in the gutter of the chicken coop’s roof, requiring careful handling to prevent it from being injured by the sharp zinc sheets. After a tense 20-minute operation, the python was safely extricated before being released back into the wild.

The 33 year old homeowner, Kathawut Yokdee, recounted the unsettling event. He had heard a loud, rumbling noise, like something scraping against wood and zinc near the chicken coop. Initially suspecting a thief due to the rice he had spread in front of his house, he was shocked to discover the massive python lodged in his chicken coop.

Kathawut speculated that the snake might have ventured from the nearby paddy field in search of food, especially since it was harvest season, leading to a scarcity of hiding spots and food sources for the python. Interestingly, Kathawut plans to try his luck with his house number in the lottery, hoping that the unexpected reptilian visitor might bring him a fortune in the next draw.
