Rescue teams rushed to the aid of an elderly couple after their canal-side house in Pathum Thani collapsed. The couple escaped with minor injuries and was quickly taken to the hospital, while their loyal dog, Pom, stayed close by.

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation’s radio centre received a report early this morning of a house collapsing into a canal with people trapped inside. The incident took place along Canal 2, Moo 6, Khlong Song subdistrict, Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province. Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene.

Upon arrival, they found a wooden house with a corrugated iron roof, part of a cluster of homes along the canal, had collapsed into the water. Two elderly residents were trapped inside and trying to escape. Rescue personnel identified the couple as 65 year old Chuang Suksa and 74 year old Charin Nimsane. Both sustained only minor injuries and were transported to Khlong Luang Hospital by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation’s team.

Chuang recounted the moments leading up to the collapse. He stated that while he and his wife were lying down, they heard the roof timbers creaking. Alarmed, they got up to exit the house, but it collapsed suddenly. Fortunately, they were not seriously hurt.

“I heard the roof timbers creaking while my wife and I were lying down. We got up to leave, but the house collapsed suddenly. We are lucky not to be seriously hurt.”

As the rescue team assisted the elderly couple into the ambulance, a male dog circled them. When the rescuers opened the back of the van, the dog jumped in. This loyal dog, named Pom, has been with the family for around eight to nine years.

Chuang mentioned that his wife has been raising the dog, and it sleeps inside the house with them every night. It seemed Pom was concerned for his owners’ safety, prompting the rescue team to secure the dog before taking the couple to the hospital, reported KhaoSod.
