More than 30 manhole covers in Bangkok stolen

Police launched an investigation into the disappearance of more than 30 manhole covers in the Thawi Watthana district of Bangkok. Officers conducted raids on a number of scrap dealer shops in the capital to recover the stolen items to no avail.

The Director of Thawi Watthana district, Dicha Kongsi, filed a complaint with Thammasara Police Station after receiving reports of missing manhole covers, which are circular metal sheets with a diameter of 86 centimetres and a weight of 70 to 80 kilograms, typically found on a roadside.

Wooden planks are being used to cover the manholes temporarily to prevent pedestrians from falling into the holes. The district office received complaints from residents about the stolen covers three weeks ago.

The president of the Thai Rice Entrepreneurs Association, Yongyut Pruekmahadamrong, said the new project aimed to educate Thai children on the benefits of locally grown rice varieties.

TikTok bans political groups ahead of Thai election

TikTok announced that it will block all accounts linked to political groups in Thailand in the lead-up to and during the country’s upcoming general election. The company has put in place procedures to prevent political parties from using the platform to profit from advertising and spread fake news.

“TikTok does not accept paid political ads or paid branded content. Politicians will be barred from engaging in any form of monetisation, while accounts taking any political angle will be added to the government, politician and political party account category.”
