Gecko blamed as toll booth slams car in Chachoengsao chaos (video)
Barricade drops, hits car, leaving scratches. Driver shocked.

A woman’s quick trip through a Thai toll booth took a bizarre turn when a rogue gecko allegedly triggered a sensor malfunction, causing an automatic barricade to slam down on her car.
The bizarre incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, at a toll checkpoint in Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province.
The female driver was using the automatic lane, which allows vehicles to pass through quickly once the light turns green. But just as she entered, disaster struck.
In dashcam footage shared on TikTok, the light turns green, giving her the signal to proceed. But as she moved forward, the barricade suddenly dropped, smashing into her vehicle and leaving visible scratches on the hood.
The impact was forceful enough to fling the barricade aside, startling the driver and forcing her to stop abruptly.
A nearby security guard appeared moments later, signalling her to pull over to the side for further assistance.

Initially, the tollway company responsible denied any wrongdoing. In a now-viral response, they claimed the malfunction was caused by a gecko interfering with the sensor, absolving themselves of responsibility.
They told the woman to contact her insurance company, adding that they had already sprayed deterrent chemicals in the past but the persistent geckos kept returning.
Infuriated by the lack of accountability, the woman uploaded her dashcam footage to TikTok to warn other drivers and highlight the absurdity of the situation. The post quickly gained traction, with many viewers chiming in with their toll booth nightmares.
One wrote, “First time I’ve heard of gecko-induced car damage, only in Thailand!”
Another joked, “Next time, check for lizards before paying your toll!”
The backlash online was swift, and according to ThaiRath, the tollway company has since changed its tune. After the public outcry, they are now reportedly willing to cover the cost of the car repairs and have dropped their earlier gecko defence, reported Mustsharenews.
The company initially requested the woman file a police report before taking further steps, but their new stance appears to be a PR damage control move after the story went viral.
