Drunk driver in Lamphun mows down mechanic in pre-dawn smash
Pickup slams into motorbike, killing rider instantly in northern Thailand

A Phayao mechanic lost his life in a fatal collision in Lamphun province early this morning after a pickup truck, driven by an individual with a blood alcohol level of 240 milligrammes, veered off the road and struck his motorbike.
Police from Ban Hong district in Chiang Mai today, April 28, received reports of a vehicle collision on the Li-Lamphun Road in Pa Phlu subdistrict, Ban Hong district, Lamphun. The incident happened before sunrise.
Emergency responders, including teams from the Phutthaisawan Foundation in Lamphun, Pa Phlu Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, and various local rescue groups, were dispatched to the scene.
First responders found a pickup truck with severe damage to its front end parked by the roadside. Just a few steps away lay a motorbike, also severely damaged. The 45 year old motorbike rider had already succumbed to his injuries by the time responders arrived.
The pickup truck driver, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, was detained by the police. He had an extremely high blood alcohol reading of 240 mg/dL.
The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving to refuel at a gas station. The vehicle crossed lanes on a downhill curve and crashed into the oncoming motorbike, tragically killing the mechanic who was en route to visit a friend.
Police have since taken the driver into custody, with plans to proceed with legal action, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, a Chinese tourist caused a late-night disturbance on a Pattaya street after crashing his pickup truck into multiple parked vehicles on Pattaya Third Road.
Police responded to reports of the collisions around 4.30am, finding the tourist passed out in the running vehicle after he had reportedly vomited out the window and attempted an escape before their arrival. The heavily intoxicated and disoriented tourist was apprehended at the scene.
