Chinese national arrested in Bangkok for counterfeit goods

Police apprehended a 48 year old Chinese national at a well-known shopping mall in the Pratunam area of Bangkok, today, April 28. The suspect, Yang Jin, was caught smuggling and selling counterfeit goods, with over 27,856 items seized from his store.
The operation was led by Police Major General Tasnaphum Charupraphan, with Police Colonel Phuwadech Julkasevi and Police Lieutenant Visarut Thaichanad playing key roles.
The counterfeit merchandise included clothing, accessories, watches, necklaces, and earrings, all imitating registered trademarks. The arrest took place in Phaya Thai subdistrict, Ratchathewi district, after police were tipped off about the illicit activities at the shopping centre.
When officials arrived at the location, Yang identified himself as the store owner. The police presented a search warrant and discovered the counterfeit items, including sweets illegally imported from China. All items were confiscated as evidence, and Yang was taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
During questioning, Yang admitted to owning the goods and confessed to smuggling them into Thailand with the help of another Chinese associate, reported KhaoSod.
Initially, he was charged with “possessing for sale goods bearing counterfeit trademarks and imitating trademarks registered in the Kingdom.” Yang was subsequently handed over to the investigators at the Economic Crime Suppression Division for further processing.

In similar news, Thai police arrested a 40 year old Chinese man, who had acquired Thai citizenship, and a 36 year old Chinese woman for allegedly trafficking in counterfeit cosmetics and medicines.
The pair had rented two properties in Bangkok, where police seized over 8,200 illicit items. The operation took place on March 26, led by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and other senior officials, in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration.
The operation uncovered 4,928 items, including medicines and herbal products, at a residence on Lat Phrao 80 Soi 11 in Wang Thonglang district. In a second house nearby, authorities seized another 3,342 items, comprising medicines, herbal products, cosmetics, and food. In total, 8,270 counterfeit items were confiscated.
