A homeowner in Chon Buri has been left baffled after receiving an astronomical water bill of over 163,000 baht for just one month. The staggering amount has sparked widespread attention on social media, particularly on the News Chon Buri-Rayong Online Facebook page, which shared the homeowner’s plight.

The bill, dated for July, amounted to a total of 163,767.51 baht, an extraordinary sum considering the house is occupied by only one person. The shocked homeowner has pleaded for an investigation into the matter, questioning the accuracy of the meter reading and the possibility of an error.

“Stunned by a 163,000 baht water bill. #ComplaintAboutExorbitantWaterBill A house in Bo Win village received this bill. How is this possible? This amount is more than the entire village combined. Could there have been a mistake in the meter reading?”

Following the post, netizens flooded the comments section with their thoughts and concerns. Many were quick to suggest that there might have been an error in recording the meter reading or a malfunction with the billing system.

“What kind of water usage could result in such a bill?”

“They must have entered the numbers incorrectly. How could they not notice such an anomaly?”

Some suggested legal action, emphasising the severity of the issue.

“Sue the person responsible for the meter reading.”

“This definitely warrants action against the meter reader. This is about money.”

Local officials and the water utility company are now expected to look into the complaint and provide clarity on how such a significant error could occur, reported KhaoSod.

In related news, an investigation conducted in February this year, at the Government Housing Project in Pattaya revealed an electricity meter tampering scandal.

Led by the project manager, in collaboration with Na Jomtien police investigators and representatives from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Jomtien branch, the inspection was prompted by irregularities in electricity consumption patterns within Building 12.
