A heated road rage encounter occurred at a traffic junction in San Sai district, Chiang Mai, where a man wielding a knife confronted another driver after a horn was honked at him. The incident, which took place at 11.25pm on Saturday, August 3, sparked widespread attention after being shared on social media.

Beat, the 26 year old driver and owner of the viral clip, recounted the events leading up to the confrontation. He was returning home from a friend’s garage, driving along the Chiang Mai-Doi Saket route. As he approached the second traffic light at the Sam Yak San Sai market junction, he noticed a pickup truck overtaking him from the left and then swerving into his lane.

To signal his presence, Beat honked his horn once. This seemingly innocuous act triggered an aggressive response from the pickup truck driver, who honked back, shouted insults, and challenged Beat to pull over.

Upon stopping to address the situation, Beat was met by the older man emerging from his vehicle brandishing a long knife. The man, appearing intoxicated, angrily accused Beat of driving slowly in the right lane. Beat explained that he had just exited the traffic light junction and was not hogging the lane. The older man, however, continued to provoke.

Opting for caution, Beat decided to avoid further escalation and returned to his car. Despite the older man’s pursuit, the two eventually parted ways when Beat made a U-turn.

Beat later posted about the incident on his personal Facebook page to warn other road users. The post garnered significant attention, with many commenting on similar experiences with the same individual. One commenter mentioned being threatened similarly at the same location but refrained from confronting the man due to having a child in the car.

Following the overwhelming response to his post, Beat reported the incident to the San Sai Police Station. Police officers identified the aggressive driver as a 56 year old man from Phan district, Chiang Rai, based on the vehicle’s registration number.

“I just wanted to warn others about this dangerous situation. It’s not safe to have someone like that on the road, especially when they’re armed.”

The police are now investigating the matter, with potential charges pending against the knife-wielding driver. This incident highlights the dangers of road rage and the importance of staying calm in volatile situations. The local community is urged to report similar encounters to ensure that roads remain safe for everyone, reported KhaoSod.
