Big bike crashes in Chiang Mai, driver missing, one shoe found
A big bike collided with a barrier on Khlong Chonprathan Road but the driver remains missing. Only a shoe was found at the scene, and rescue teams have not located the driver despite extensive searches.
At 3.30am today, August 8, Chiang Mai Provincial Police Headquarters (191) received a report of an accident involving a big bike that had crashed into a roadside barrier on Khlong Chonprathan Road, near the Mae Hia Agricultural Research Station in Mueang Chiang Mai. Officers notified the Phuping Police Station patrol unit and the Chiang Mai Rescue Association, which dispatched divers and an ambulance to the scene.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found a big bike with a Chiang Mai registration lying beside the road. A single sneaker and evidence of a collision with the barrier were discovered. It is believed that the driver may have fallen into the irrigation canal. Rescue teams, including divers and emergency personnel, started a thorough search along the canal, covering a distance of 3.3 kilometres, but did not locate the driver.
Tulip Mahawong, Chiang Mai Rescue Association President, stated that the only evidence found was the motorcycle by the roadside, with no sign of the injured driver. This led the rescue team to conduct a water search in the canal, suspecting the driver may have been thrown into the water upon impact, reported KhaoSod.
Despite searching the 3.3-kilometre stretch of the canal, no body was found. The rescue operation was temporarily halted because the waterway leads underground at a sluice gate, making further search efforts impossible at that point.
In related news, a teenage motorcycle rider crashed into a sedan in Sattahip, Chon Buri, resulting in serious injuries, prompting the immediate dispatch of rescue teams.
The Sawang Boriboon Rojana Thammasathan Sattahip Foundation reported the accident on Sukhumvit Road, heading towards Sattahip in the Na Jomtien sub-district. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene at 7.30am on July 10.
