Bangkok taxi driver returns tourist’s lost bag with 75,100 baht

A taxi driver in Bangkok made headlines yesterday after returning a significant amount of foreign currency to an Israeli tourist.

The taxi driver, 54 year old Wirat Soi-udom from Roi Et province, discovered a black handbag in his taxi, containing foreign currencies and documents. The bag belonged to Nathanel Avinoam, an Israeli national.

Wirat had picked up Avinoam from Thanon Tok and dropped him off at Sukhumvit Soi 22 on Saturday night, August 31. Upon finding the bag, Wirat immediately attempted to locate the owner before handing it over to the FM91 Traffic Pro Radio Station around 2am the following day. The bag contained currencies valued at 75,100 baht.

After verifying the ownership, FM91 was able to trace Avinoam, who was staying at a hotel in the Charoen Krung area. Avinoam, who has been a frequent visitor to Thailand for over 20 years, expressed his profound gratitude to Wirat for his honesty and efforts, reported Pattaya News.

Avinoam rewarded the driver with 6,800 baht for his commendable deed.
