Bangkok man caught with meth pills during traffic stop

A Bangkok man’s suspicious behaviour at a traffic checkpoint led to his arrest after police found 60 methamphetamine (meth) pills hidden inside a cigarette pack.
The operation took place yesterday, March 5 along the inbound Vibhavadi Road in Chatuchak district, where officers from the Vibhavadi Rangsit Traffic Control Centre were enforcing traffic rules, particularly targeting motorcyclists using the main lanes.
Police noticed 28 year old Theerasak riding a motorcycle without a licence plate and acting suspiciously.
Police Sub-Lieutenant Raksa instructed Lance Corporal Tawee to stop and inspect the motorcycle.
Upon searching Theerasak, officers uncovered the meth pills concealed in a cigarette pack. A preliminary urine test later confirmed he had used drugs.
Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, who oversaw the operation, confirmed that the drugs were immediately seized as evidence.
During questioning, Theerasak admitted to purchasing the methamphetamine from an acquaintance named Kim in the Thanya Khlong 10 area. He claimed he bought the pills for personal use at 30 baht each. However, he was unable to provide Kim’s full name or additional details about his supplier.
The initial charges against him include possession of a category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) and driving under the influence of drugs. Theerasak, along with the seized evidence, was transferred to the Don Mueang Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
This arrest underscores the Bangkok Metropolitan Police’s continued crackdown on drug-related offences, particularly among reckless motorcyclists. The police have vowed to step up operations to keep the capital’s roads safe.
Thailand is facing an escalating methamphetamine crisis, with police making significant seizures and arrests in recent months.
In Chiang Rai, police intercepted a shipment containing 8 million methamphetamine pills in Phaya Mengrai district, although the suspects managed to escape.
In another major bust, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and local police raided a location in Chiang Rai’s Rob Wiang Subdistrict, arresting two suspects and seizing assets worth approximately 25 million baht.
