Summer storm warning for Thailand: 54 provinces on alert

Weather forecasts for today, May 12, indicate that Thailand will experience a summer storm across 54 provinces, with northern areas especially at risk. Bangkok will face strong winds today, according to the Meteorological Department’s 24-hour forecast, which also predicts thunderstorms, hail, and heavy rain in some areas.

This weather condition brings southeast and south winds that carry moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea over upper Thailand. Some areas in the north remain hot, while parts of the south can expect heavy rainfall.

Residents in the south should be cautious of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoffs, particularly in hilly areas near waterways and lowlands. The moderate southwest winds continue to affect the Andaman Sea, the south, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The Andaman Sea experiences moderate waves, with heights reaching 1 to 2 metres, and areas with thunderstorms see waves over 2 metres high. Current weather conditions may affect the accumulation of dust particles, with moderate to low levels of dust and haze in upper Thailand due to widespread rainfall.
