A tragic incident unfolded yesterday in the village of Ban Na, Khun Han district, Sisaket province, when a 25 year old man, Natthaphon, was fatally stabbed. This occurred following an altercation over an unsettled debt, leading to a chaotic confrontation and ending in his death. The suspect fled the scene on a motorcycle, prompting a police investigation.

The early hours of yesterday, January 5, saw reporters visiting the crime scene, where they discovered an empty bottle of energy drink mixed with white liquor by the roadside near a wastewater canal. This added to the grim atmosphere of the location where the violent episode took place.

A 53 year old local, Rian, who lives nearby, recounted hearing a heated argument that night. She tried to see what was happening but it was too dark.

She only managed to catch sight of the assailant escaping on a motorcycle. Rian alerted her partner, who found Natthaphon lying injured by the roadside, partially submerged in the village’s wastewater canal. They quickly called for medical assistance but unfortunately, Natthaphon succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Natthaphon’s mother, 60 year old Sawat, shared the family’s plight. She revealed that her son was supposed to travel to Bangkok for construction work on January 3 but his intoxication prevented him from boarding the transport.

Consequently, he remained at home, where his drinking habit persisted, exacerbated by the new year festivities. On the night of his death, Natthaphon was heavily intoxicated and was heading into the village to drink with friends when he was stabbed.

Sawat expressed profound grief and anger, stating she would never forgive the perpetrator and did not want them to pay respects at her son’s funeral.

Police Colonel Pruet Boonpok from Khun Han Police Station disclosed that they were notified of the stabbing incident, which initially involved an unidentified sharp weapon. The victim was transported to Khun Han Hospital but did not survive.

The assailant fled on a grey Honda motorcycle, prompting an investigation to identify and locate the suspect.

After an hour of investigation, police identified the suspect as 19 year old Krisada, who was part of a group known for drug use and kratom consumption at an unnumbered house to the west of Ban Na. Upon arrival at the house, police found Krisada and a motorcycle matching the description from the crime scene.

Bloodstains were found on the motorcycle, leading to Krisada’s arrest.

During questioning, Krisada confessed to attacking Natthaphon. He claimed the confrontation arose over a drug debt dispute. Krisada alleged that Natthaphon approached him with a knife, leading to a struggle in which Natthaphon fell onto the blade, sustaining fatal injuries. Krisada then fled the scene in panic, reported KhaoSod.

Police have charged Krisada with causing bodily harm resulting in death. He is set to be held for a court appearance today, January 6.
