A brutal domestic dispute escalated to homicide when a man fatally shot his brother-in-law multiple times in front of their family home. The incident, sparked by an argument over inherited land rights, occurred in the Chaiya district of Surat Thani Province. The gunman is now in police custody awaiting prosecution.

On the evening of yesterday, at around 10pm, police officers from the Chaiya Police Station were alerted to a fatal shooting at a residence in the Pa We area of Chaiya district. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of a rubber plantation worker, 45 year old Santi, sprawled on the lawn in front of the house. He had been shot five times; the bullets perforated his left chest and arm. Two .32 calibre shell casings were found nearby, which were collected as evidence, reported KhaoSod.

The house, the scene of the murder, belonged to the deceased’s mother and sister, with the shooter, known as Ole, also residing there. Initial investigations revealed that, around 9pm, Santi had brought fish to his mother’s house and subsequently engaged in a heated argument with Ole, his brother-in-law. The dispute quickly turned violent, with Ole brandishing a firearm and shooting Santi multiple times. Santi tried to flee but collapsed and died by the front gate, approximately 20 meters away from where the argument had started.

Following the incident, local village leaders and police were able to apprehend and detain Ole. Investigators from the Chaiya Police Station are now handling the case. It is believed that the argument, which led to this fatal confrontation, stemmed from a disagreement over the division of inherited land.
