Two killed after attackers open fire on pickup in Narathiwat

Two people, including a district official, were shot dead early this morning, April 1, after attackers opened fire on their pickup in Dusongyo subdistrict, Chanae district, Narathiwat province.

Police were alerted at about 1am to an ambush shooting involving a pickup truck. Officers coordinated with relevant units before going to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found a black, four-door Toyota pickup parked by the roadside with multiple bullet holes. The victims were identified as Monchai, a district officer in charge of security-related work in Chanae district, and 27 year old Haidah Bueraheng.

Police said both victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were later taken to Chanae Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Initial information indicated the pair had travelled by car for personal business. After completing their errands, Monchai was driving Haidah back to her home when the shooting occurred.

Investigators believe the attackers were hiding by the roadside and opened fire on the pickup, firing dozens of rounds before fleeing.

Amarin TV reported that the motive has not been confirmed, and police said they were still gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Investigators have not ruled out a security-related motive, a personal dispute, or a relationship-related issue, and the area remained secured as the search continued.

In similar news, a man was found dead on the shoulder of the M6 motorway in Sung Noen district, Nakhon Ratchasima, with police treating the case as a shooting while they work to identify the suspect.

Preliminary checks found an apparent gunshot wound from a shotgun, with officers believing he died at the scene. Police said the circumstances and motive were not yet known.
