Police detained the abbot of a temple in Kui Buri district for questioning over allegations of sexually assaulting a minor. Villagers believe the abbot, known for accurate lottery predictions, is being falsely accused. The abbot denies the charges, while police reveal seven individuals have surrendered in connection with the case.

Yesterday, September 19, at the office of the Kui Buri district monk dean at Wat Wang Yao, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Major General Chamlong Ngamnet, Provincial Police Commander, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Piti Innoi, Chief Inspector of Sam Krathai Police Station, led a team of officers to escort the 79 year old abbot from his temple in Sam Krathai for questioning.

The abbot, who faces accusations of sexually assaulting a girl under 15 years old, was brought before Phra Khru Kosolsupakit, the district monk dean. Supporters of the abbot, who believe he is being framed due to his accurate lottery predictions, gathered to show their support.

Following the arrest, police searched the abbot’s quarters for evidence related to the alleged assaults, which reportedly occurred 10 times within the temple’s premises.

Investigations reveal the girl was sexually assaulted by a group of approximately 10 individuals at different locations and times. These assaults took place in multiple areas, including two incidents in Kui Buri, where one involved a car dealership owner, two in Yang Chum, involving a local administrative officer, and one in Sam Krathai.

Arrest warrants have been issued for all suspects. In Sam Roi Yot, five suspects, including a conscript, have already surrendered but continue to deny the charges.

Maj. Gen. Chamlong disclosed that the child assault case spans several jurisdictions, including Sam Roi Yot, Krathai, Yang Chum, and Kui Buri. Police have filed four complaints and seven suspects have surrendered, with two more scheduled to turn themselves in shortly. Police are also gathering evidence to determine if the alleged procurer can be charged with human trafficking.

The abbot, accused of involvement, has surrendered and maintains his innocence. Until a court verdict is reached, he is presumed innocent and is likely to be granted bail, as police believe he will not flee or tamper with evidence or witnesses.

All suspects face charges of sexually assaulting a minor under 15 years old and taking a minor away from their parents or guardians, regardless of the minor’s consent, as per legal protections, reported KhaoSod.

The villagers, who hold the 79 year old abbot in high regard due to his long-standing service and respected status, came to observe and support him.

As the legal battle unfolds, the abbot denies all allegations, and investigators must compile evidence to determine his guilt or innocence, providing both parties a fair chance to present their cases.
