Police find 40,000 meth pills in abandoned car in S Thailand

Police in the Ron Phibun district of southern Thailand discovered 40,000 methamphetamine pills in an abandoned, wrecked car with a street value of about 5 million baht late last night.

Ron Phibun police chief Pol Col Suthas Songsayom announced officers were alerted to the abandoned vehicle that had crashed in a ditch, near Suan Phak intersection in tambon Ron Phibun, at about 11.30pm by emergency services.

Police arrived at the scene and found a badly damaged white Toyota sedan in the ditch.

Sayam Ruam Chai Foundation rescuers, who arrived at the scene ahead of the police, reported that two men jumped out of the vehicle brandishing handguns as they approached.

The rescuers, fearing for their lives, moved away from the car and the men. They added that the two men then fled on foot, grabbing a bag as they made a getaway.

Police discovered about 40,000 meth pills hidden in the right front door, along with 40 rounds of .357 ammunition and a gun licence.

Pol Col Suthas reported the car and drugs were taken to Ron Phibun police station for further examination.
