A motorcycle-riding assailant threw a pipe bomb at a checkpoint near the Koh Pho market in Pattani province. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police suspect the incident is part of a series of disruptions during Ramadan, following a similar occurrence earlier this month.

At 7.10pm yesterday, March 10, police at Koh Pho Police Station received a report of an attack involving an unidentified group hurling a pipe bomb at a checkpoint near the U-turn before the Koh Pho district market.

Surveillance footage revealed the suspect, dressed in white, on a motorcycle, executing the attack before fleeing via a left turn towards Ban Don, Village No. 7, in Koh Pho subdistrict. The area has since been secured, allowing officials and relevant units to conduct a thorough investigation.

Officials believe the incident aims to foment unrest during Ramadan. Earlier this month, a similar attack took place at the same checkpoint, where the perpetrators used a pickup truck. The pursuit of the suspects remains ongoing.

A few days ago, a deadly explosion in Pattani’s Sai Buri district claimed the lives of three officials. The blast occurred at around 11.20pm on March 8, prompting police to delay further investigation until daylight due to fears of additional explosive devices.

Residents have been urged to report any suspicious people or objects to the police immediately.

The 44th Ranger Regiment received reports of the explosion in the Hu Tae Kor Lae neighborhood, specifically in village 3 of the Troh Bon subdistrict. The attack came just hours after an earlier assault on rangers from Company 4411 at 6pm, leading police to reinforce security around the Hu Tae Kor Lae intersection.

The blast near a pavilion claimed the lives of three individuals: Ranger Samai Boonyong, village assistant Maromli Mayadeng, and village security assistant Adisorn Doloh.
