Drumming up excitement: Phuket’s Surin Beach beats to the rhythm of tourism’s future with groundbreaking Glass Terrace project
The sound of ceremonial drums echoed across Surin Beach, Phuket, early this morning marking the start of construction on a project of substantial tourism potential – the Glass Terrace. With an estimated completion time of two years, this 198 million baht project is anticipated to become a significant tourist attraction along the island’s west coast.
Leading the groundbreaking ceremony was Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO). Various executive members from the PPAO and the Cherng Talay local government office were alongside him.
As the first pillar of the construction was laid, monks conducted a ceremony to bestow blessings and good luck on the project, an equally captivating and symbolic sight.
The focal point of the Glass Terrace project is a walkway and viewing platform that promises to offer idyllic views of Surin Beach. Designed to cater to both locals and tourists, this platform is expected to become a major attraction in the future. The project, which occupies a space of 9 rai (14,400 square metres), will be executed by the construction consulting firm, Pisut Technology Company Limited.
Officials confirmed that there will be two official viewpoints in the project. The first, a glass terrace walkway extends approximately 40 metres from the cliff and stands 50 metres above sea level. This platform includes an observation tower offering a 360-degree viewing experience of the local area.
The second viewpoint extends around eight metres from the cliff, around 20 metres above sea level. This spot is anticipated to offer stunning sea views, making it the perfect location for sunset viewing, reported Phuket News.
The Glass Terrace is part of a broader tourism initiative that includes the construction of an elevated lookout at Promthep Cape in Rawai. This glass structure, currently known as the Sky Walk Khao Daeng, was proposed at a public meeting on July 20, where it garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback. The lookout will extend approximately 10 metres from the side of the cliff, with an estimated cost of 250 million baht, as stated by Rewat in July.
Pisut Technology Company Limited has been tasked with executing this project as well. However, as of now, no official updates have been shared on its progress. As the first pillar of the Glass Terrace project was laid today, locals and tourists alike eagerly anticipate the completion of these two projects, destined to enhance the tourism potential of Phuket.
