Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang fly high in global airport rankings

Thailand’s major airports are flying high on the global stage, with Suvarnabhumi International Airport breaking into the top 40 of the world’s best airports for 2025 and Don Mueang International Airport landing in the top 10 for low-cost travel hubs.
Yesterday, April 10, Airports of Thailand (AOT) Chief Executive Officer Keerati Kitimanawat announced the impressive leap in global rankings, attributing the success to strong government backing, particularly from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Juangroongruangkit, who has championed aviation development to boost trade, tourism, and investment.
According to the latest rankings by Skytrax, a leading UK-based aviation research and consulting firm, Suvarnabhumi Airport climbed to 39th place globally, a significant rise from its 58th position last year. The airport was also named the third most improved airport in the world and ranked sixth among airports that serve between 50 and 60 million passengers annually.
Meanwhile, Don Mueang Airport, a favourite for low-cost carriers, made its mark by securing eighth place in the world’s best low-cost airports, rising from 10th place the previous year.

The rankings are based on the World Airport Survey, which gathers passenger feedback worldwide on everything from check-in and security to shopping and terminal cleanliness. The official results were unveiled on Wednesday, April 9, at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Madrid, Spain, reported Amarin TV.
“This global recognition reflects the international community’s growing confidence in the quality of services offered at Thai airports,” said Keerati. “It’s a testament to the collaboration of all agencies involved.
“AOT remains committed to upgrading infrastructure, embracing new technology, and raising service standards to ensure Thai airports continue to shine globally.”
The news is a major boost for Thailand’s image as a travel hub and underscores the country’s commitment to becoming a regional leader in aviation.
In similar news, a new shuttle bus service now connects Don Mueang International Airport to Pattaya, making travel easier for both domestic and international tourists.
Officially launched on March 8, the service is part of the government’s push to boost tourism and strengthen the economy by linking major airports to top tourist destinations. Overseen by Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote, the initiative aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for travellers.
The service currently operates across three routes, providing seamless and stress-free transport between the airport and one of Thailand’s most popular beach cities, with plans to expand to other key destinations.
