Pattaya cracks down on dangerous Songkran water guns

What’s meant to be all fun and games during Songkran has taken a dangerous turn, and Pattaya officials are sounding the alarm.

As water fights continue to soak the city, officials have issued a stern warning over the use of high-pressure water guns, which have flooded the streets of Soi 6, Soi Buakhao, and Jomtien.

Unlike your typical water blasters, these souped-up super-soakers pack a punch — and they’re not just a nuisance, “they’re a real danger,” said one unnamed local.

“I’ve seen a lot of these high-pressure water guns being sold around Soi Buakha. Some people even try to sell them secretly around Jomtien. The force is so strong it could throw someone off a bike!”

Another local warned, “These things are everywhere right now but rest assured, if the police catch you using or selling them, they will take action.”

Local officials confirmed their zero-tolerance approach, stating that these powerful weapons are being confiscated on sight.

“These high-pressure water guns are dangerous. When someone gets hit, they can be thrown off balance, and it’s extremely risky,” said a spokesperson from Pattaya Police. “We are confiscating them from both sellers and users.”

With revellers packing the streets and motorbikes still zipping through Songkran hotspots, the risk of serious accidents is high.

Officials have expressed particular concern over people being knocked off motorbikes or losing balance on slippery roads after being hit with these water blasters.

The public has echoed these concerns, with many urging partygoers to use common sense and avoid turning the festival into a free-for-all water war zone. What’s meant to be a celebration of Thai culture and tradition could quickly turn tragic if safety is ignored.

Police urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and follow the rules, or risk having their weapon of splash destruction seized, reported Pattaya Mail.

With Wan Lai festivities still to come, Pattaya officials have made one thing clear: if you’re caught with a high-pressure water gun, expect to face the consequences.
