Karaoke worker bins newborn after bathroom birth in Chon Buri

A karaoke bar worker, allegedly unaware of her pregnancy, reportedly gave birth in a bathroom, placing the dead newborn in a plastic bag before discarding it in a rubbish bin.

The incident unfolded at 7pm yesterday, April 16, in Chon Buri province, when a scrap collector discovered the baby’s body in a bin in Mueang subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri.

Upon receiving the report, Police Lieutenant Mintharat Thongsai, along with the investigation team and Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit from Pattaya, arrived at the scene. A crowd of locals gathered, expressing anger and disbelief over the discovery.

The baby boy, with the umbilical cord still attached, was wrapped in a grey and white striped shirt and placed in a plastic bag. It was estimated that the child had died shortly after birth, having been dead for at least 12 hours.

A 43 year old resident, Ek, shared that he was talking with friends when he heard the scrap collector shouting about a newborn baby‘s body in the bin. Shocked by the sight of the unclothed infant wrapped in a striped shirt within a plastic bag from a convenience store, Ek immediately contacted the police.

He expressed his distress, noting it was his first encounter with such a situation and questioned how the parents could be so cruel.

While the police were collecting evidence, a tip-off led them to a woman in a nearby rental room suspected of being the infant’s mother. The investigation team located the 24 year old woman from Nakhon Ratchasima province, who was visibly panicked upon their arrival. She admitted to being the infant’s mother, saying she recently began working at a karaoke bar and was unaware of her pregnancy.

“I used to frequently go out and drink alcohol daily. Around 7am, I experienced severe abdominal pain and went to the bathroom. The baby was born, but he was not breathing. I was in shock and did not know what to do,” she claimed, stating she was unaware of her pregnancy. She mentioned having a 4 year old child.

The police detained her for further investigation, with CCTV footage showing her carrying an orange bag towards the bin before discarding it and returning to her room. It is believed that this bag contained the infant’s body.

The infant’s body was sent for an autopsy to determine whether the death occurred in the womb or after birth, guiding subsequent legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
