Two workers killed in landslide during pipe installation

Two workers tragically lost their lives while another narrowly escaped when a landslide buried them during a drainage pipe installation.
The incident occurred around 6.30pm,yesterday, February 26, in Ban Huana, Khok Thai subdistrict, Pak Thong Chai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Police Colonel Boonprod Prasertsak, superintendent of Pak Thong Chai Police Station, received the report and promptly dispatched officers to the scene alongside rescue teams from Hook 31.
The landslide took place at a public road intersection leading to Ban Huana, where an excavator was found scooping soil to rescue the trapped workers. Unfortunately, two workers lost their lives due to asphyxiation after being completely buried in the soil.
They were identified as 58 year old Kamol Ayu and 70 year old Chawalit Ayu. A third worker, 62 year old Prakit, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that the area was being elevated through soil filling, which inadvertently impacted the water drainage path into a public canal. Consequently, the deceased and injured workers, all locals, were hired to carry out the project, reported KhaoSod.
An excavator was rented to dig a trench 2.5 metres deep for the pipe installation. While the workers were welding the pipes, the soil at the edge of the pit collapsed, tragically burying the workers beneath. Legal proceedings are set to follow to address this unfortunate incident.
