Grief and questions linger after fatal plunge into concealed pit

A 65 year old woman tragically died after falling into a septic tank at her home in Phitsanulok province. Her granddaughter discovered her body, leading to a police investigation into the accident.
Police Colonel Chanasak Phueanghuengkaew from Wang Thong Police Station received a report at 6.25pm, Yesterday, May 5, about a dead woman in a septic tank at a house in Mueang Phitsanulok district. Emergency services from the Burapha rescue unit were dispatched to the scene.
The house, a single-storey concrete structure, had an old septic tank next to it where the body was found. The victim, Sa-ing, was discovered head-first in the tank, covered in waste.
The septic tank was approximately 3 metres deep. Rescue personnel worked to retrieve the body and cleaned it, estimating she had been dead for at least three hours.
Initial investigations revealed that Sa-ing was home alone when the incident occurred. She was going to collect dried mango sheets from beside the house as the weather turned cloudy.
Unfortunately, she stepped on what appeared to be a deteriorated septic tank cover, which broke and caused her to fall into the tank. She was unable to escape and drowned, reported KhaoSod.
Later that evening, her granddaughter returned, called for her, and upon searching, discovered the tragic scene. Relatives, stricken with grief, contacted the police, who will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of death, following legal procedures. Sa-ing’s body will be returned to her family for religious rites.
