American tourist falls to death at Nakhon Ratchasima shopping centre
A tragic incident unfolded when a foreign tourist fell from the fourth floor of a renowned shopping centre in Nakhon Ratchasima, landing on the ground floor and dying instantly in front of shocked shoppers. The event caused panic among both Thai and international customers.
At 5.25pm yesterday, November 18, police from Nakhon Ratchasima City Police Station and rescue workers from the Sawang Metta Nakhon Ratchasima Foundation received reports of an accident involving a 56 year old American male tourist.
The man fell from the fourth floor to the ground floor near the escalators in the bustling Terminal 21 shopping centre, much to the horror of the onlookers.
Security personnel and the shopping centre’s medical team quickly responded to the scene in an attempt to assist. Upon arrival, they discovered that the tourist had already succumbed to his injuries. The police promptly informed the police and secured the area, ensuring that bystanders were kept at a distance.
Local news page Korat Home News posted a brief video showing officials clearing the area, which quickly went viral. The clip was widely shared and commented upon, with images depicting the scene where officials had covered the deceased with a box to maintain some privacy. The incident drew significant attention, spreading across social media platforms.
Later, an emergency medical team, along with forensic doctors from Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital and police officers, arrived to examine the body. The examination revealed multiple fractures in the arms and legs, a severely impacted head, and significant blood loss from the body. The Sawang Metta Nakhon Ratchasima rescue team was tasked with transporting the body to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for a thorough post-mortem examination.
Police investigations uncovered a hotel room card from a prominent hotel nearby, suggesting that the deceased was a tourist visiting Thailand and staying at the hotel. It is presumed that he visited the shopping centre and tragically fell from the fourth floor to his death on the ground floor, reported Sanook.
The cause of the fall remains unclear, and police are investigating whether it was intentional or an unfortunate accident.
