Thunderstorms and strong winds batter Thailand, TMD warns
Meteorological department issues weather warning: storms and heavy rainfall ahead

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for today, May 2. Thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast across upper Thailand, with Bangkok also affected. Residents are cautioned about the potential dangers of intense weather conditions, particularly in the North, northeast, and central regions.
Upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms and strong winds due to easterly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture over the area, combined with daytime heat. Residents are advised to be cautious and maintain their health amidst changing weather conditions. The South will see increased rainfall, with heavy downpours in some areas, particularly in the lower parts of the region. This may lead to flash floods and runoff, especially in mountainous areas near water channels and low-lying areas.
The Gulf of Thailand is expected to have waves around 1 metre high, but they could exceed 2 metres in stormy conditions. Fishermen are advised to avoid sailing in these areas during thunderstorms.
