Mae Hong Son manhunt intensifies as suspect remains elusive

An uncle and his nephew were laid to rest after being fatally shot by a 37 year old man, last week.

The incident occurred on April 23 in Mae Yom subdistrict, Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province. The victims, 65 year old Dike Sukulkij and 41 year old Kamol Sukulkij, were allegedly killed without any clear motive by Yutthana Jatupornsivalee, also known as Boy.

Police launched an operation to apprehend the suspect but have yet to find any leads.

Yesterday, April 28, the relatives held a burial ceremony for the deceased at the Christian Cemetery in Mae Sariang district. The event was sombre, with mourners placing flowers and a handful of soil on the coffins before volunteers from the Mae Sariang Territorial Defence provided security.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Papassapong Kaewrakamook from Tha Thaplang Police Station shared updates on the pursuit, stating that the police have devised plans to capture the suspect. However, these plans remain confidential to prevent the suspect from gaining information through social media.

Pol. Lt. Col. Papassapong urged the public to remain calm, explaining that the suspect is familiar with the forest and knows the routes well, which may prolong the capture.

Meanwhile, security measures have been intensified in Mae Kong Kha village, with residents relocating their families to safer areas while men stay behind to guard their homes. The 36th Ranger Forces Regiment and Tha Thaplang Police Station are rotating personnel to ensure community safety.

Deputy District Chief Wichaya Potasri of Mae La Noi district addressed rumours of the suspect’s presence in his hometown, urging residents not to panic. He assured that police have been on high alert since the incident, with plans in place to target areas where the suspect might be hiding.

The 36th Ranger Forces Regiment has warned that the armed suspect is dangerous and continues efforts to locate and arrest him, reported KhaoSod.
