A Myanmar national was arrested yesterday morning, January 13, after allegedly damaging 19 parked vehicles in Satun’s La-ngu district using stones and a digging tool.

The incident occurred around 3am in Moo 6, La-ngu subdistrict, where the suspect, a 45 year old man identified only as Saw, was captured on CCTV picking up a stone and smashing two cars parked in front of houses. The loud noise woke several residents, but the rampage didn’t end there.

After the initial attack, the man reportedly switched from using stones to a steel-handled digging tool approximately 29 inches long. He then proceeded to walk along the roadside, allegedly smashing vehicles parked there.

Police from La-ngu Police Station were able to track down and arrest the suspect after an hour. Officers also recovered the digging tool believed to have been used in the attack. When word of the arrest spread, angry locals gathered at the station, demanding answers and voicing their frustration.

Later that morning, several vehicles were found severely damaged. One resident said they had woken up after hearing repeated loud noises and peeked outside to find someone hitting their car with a metal tool. The resident added they were too afraid to intervene, as the man appeared armed and aggressive.

Police said the suspect tested positive for illegal drugs and had entered the country unlawfully as he did not possess a valid work permit.

La-ngu police have pressed three charges against the suspect: causing damage to property, illegal entry into the Kingdom, and drug use.
