Miracle escape: Electrician survives Khon Kaen earthquake

A young man has shared his terrifying experience of narrowly escaping a collapsed building during a deadly earthquake, recounting how he fled from the 27th floor with his employer’s daughter. The dramatic escape involved breaking through a corrugated iron fence to safety.
Yesterday, April 1, reporters visited the home of 62 year old Seng Mo Wiang and 56 year old Pawana Mo Sieang in Mueang Huai Chot, Nong Daeng subdistrict, Si Chomphu district, Khon Kaen province.
Their son, 30 year old Peerapol Mo Wiang, had survived the collapse of the Office of the Auditor General building during the earthquake on March 28. The couple, visibly relieved, spoke with their son after he called them around noon, facilitating a conversation between him and the reporters.
Peerapol recounted the shocking ordeal, explaining that he had been working as an electrician on the 27th floor when his supervisors, a husband and wife team, asked him to fetch a water bottle from the first floor. He was accompanied by their daughter, Namtarn, who was also retrieving tools for her parents.
As they descended via the elevator, they heard the sound of cracking concrete from the first floor, followed by piercing screams. Before they could react, the building collapsed from behind them.
Amid thick, choking dust, Peerapol and Namtarn ran for their lives, fighting to breathe as they made their way to safety. They managed to break through a corrugated iron fence, escaping the chaos just in time.
Tragically, the supervisors and their son-in-law, Fas, were still on the 27th floor and are believed to be trapped under the rubble. While hope remains, Peerapol and his family await the grim confirmation of their fate, reported KhaoSod.
In a bittersweet turn of events, the family remains hopeful that their loved ones will be found. Should the bodies be recovered, they plan to return to Khon Kaen immediately to bring them home.
The emotional toll of the collapse continues to weigh heavily on the survivors, but the miraculous escape of Peerapol and Namtarn offers a glimmer of hope amid the devastation.
