A tragic accident claimed the life of a man at a temple in Khon Kaen province when a coconut tree he was cutting down fell on him. The incident was captured on video by a monk, providing a heartbreaking final image of the man’s life.

Yesterday, November 28, Phongphichit Thanapantphakdee, deputy inspector of Mancha Khiri Police Station, received a report about a fatal accident involving a fallen tree at Wat Moo 4 in Kut Khao, Mancha Khiri district. The 38 year old man was found lying at the base of the tree with severe facial injuries and a deformed leg.

A chainsaw and the cut tree were found nearby, and the incident left the local community in shock.

Before the accident, the man had volunteered to cut down the coconut tree for the temple. The tree’s considerable height posed a risk of being uprooted by strong winds, potentially causing damage.

Instead of receiving financial compensation, he requested the coconut tree’s remains for personal use. The man arrived at the temple with his mother and son to carry out the task.

As he was cutting the coconut tree, he left a small portion uncut to allow it to fall gradually. However, while descending the tree with a chainsaw and rope in hand, the tree unexpectedly broke, striking his head and resulting in his death.
