Teen rescued after leg trapped in rice harvester in Uthai Thani
A 17 year old boy suffered a harrowing incident when he slipped and his leg got caught in a rice harvester‘s grain tank. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Uthai Thani province to rescue him using cutting equipment, highlighting the dangers of agricultural machinery.
Officials, including Chatmongkol Suwannasate, Deputy Mayor of Nong Chang Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, received an alert late yesterday, November 19, from the municipal rescue team of Nong Sa subdistrict.
They were called to assist a young man whose leg was trapped in the grain bin of a rice harvester in a field in Moo 1, Nong Sa subdistrict, Thap Than district, Uthai Thani province. The incident occurred around 9.30pm, prompting an immediate response.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found the rice harvester stationary in the middle of the field, surrounded by anxious locals offering support to the injured teenager. Climbing onto the harvester, the team discovered 17 year old Supakorn, in visible agony with his right leg firmly stuck in the rollers of the grain tank. The machinery had trapped him in a painful predicament.
The team used specialised cutting tools to dismantle the roller mechanism, a task that took approximately 30 minutes. Once freed, Supakorn was swiftly transported to Thap Than Hospital for urgent medical care.
Details emerged from Phun, the field owner who had hired the harvester, shedding light on the sequence of events. Earlier, the harvester had completed one round of collecting rice. However, two more rai (a unit of area in Thailand) remained to be harvested. Around 6.30pm, Supakorn returned to finish the task of gathering the remaining crop.
Having completed the harvest, Supakorn proceeded to the grain tank to ensure all the rice was cleared. Unfortunately, with the engine still running and the grain tank’s aluminium floor being slippery and slanted, he lost his balance, reported KhaoSod.
His leg slipped into the operating rollers, trapping him in a dangerous and painful situation. The quick response from emergency services was crucial in averting a more tragic outcome.
