A man was apprehended by police at the Thung Sri Muang festival in Udon Thani yesterday after reports surfaced on social media about his inappropriate behaviour towards women. Boonhom, who had recently sold two cows and had been spending his earnings at the festival, claims he was misunderstood.

Social media posts warned women attending the Thung Sri Muang festival to be cautious of a man in a red shirt, who appeared to be intentionally approaching women as if to kiss them. The incidents took place yesterday, December 8, near the path leading to the central stage, causing concern among attendees.

Police in Udon Thani received a tip-off about the man’s whereabouts and officers from the city’s patrol unit were dispatched to the scene and found Boonhom, who was then taken to the local police station for interrogation.

Upon searching Boonhom, police found 3,840 baht in cash and two mobile phones. A urine test revealed traces of drugs, which led to his arrest on charges of drug use.

Boonhom explained that he had been at the festival since December 4, with 20,000 baht from selling cattle. He claimed to have spent over 17,000 baht on entertainment and accommodation near the festival.

”I didn’t mean to harass anyone. I just smell the women’s perfume and they wanted to take pictures with me because they think I’m handsome and wealthy.”

He added that he intended to retreat to Loei province on December 13 to escape the chaos and deceit of human society.
