Altitude alert: Flight attendant spills beans on why plane coffee gets a turbulent reaction (video)
A flight attendant sparked a heated discussion on social media by revealing why passengers should avoid drinking coffee served on planes.
The video clip was posted on the TikTok account @ichbinvin, responding to a query initially raised on the website Reddit about the dirty little secrets of working on an aircraft.
The flight attendant, Kevin, agreed with another netizen’s comment, a pilot, who advised against drinking coffee on the plane due to the rarely cleaned water tanks used to brew the coffee. He described the coffee served on planes as quite disgusting and suggested arriving at the airport 10 minutes earlier to purchase coffee in the passenger terminal.
The issue is not solely the infrequently cleaned water tanks but also the coffee pots. Residual coffee can’t be drained through a water outlet, leading to staff disposing of it in the toilet. Kevin painted a vivid picture of the coffee pot being held close to the toilet to prevent splashing, potentially leading to bacteria or particles contaminating the coffee pot, which would then be transferred back to the coffee machine.
Kevin divulged that most airline staff and crew members avoid drinking coffee brewed on the plane, with airlines typically providing ready-made coffee instead. His video rapidly gained traction, amassing over 161,800 views as of December 1, with numerous viewers expressing their gratitude for the advice and vowing to avoid in-flight coffee in the future.
Kevin is not the first flight attendant to share tales concerning in-flight coffee. Last year, a former flight attendant named Kat shared several things she would avoid on a flight, including hot water due to the lack of cleanliness of the water tanks. When passengers drink coffee or tea, they are consuming that hot water, making it exceedingly off-putting.
In related news, the engine of an aircraft from Don Mueang carrying famed singer Unnop Thongborisut, better known as Por, exploded mid-flight, causing widespread panic among passengers. Read more about this story HERE.
