A 70 year old man found employment at a local Sukiyaki restaurant, Charoen Thai Sukiyaki Soi 4, despite his advanced age. This generous act by the restaurant’s owner sparked widespread admiration online, as it provides a lifeline for the elderly man who is the sole provider for his ageing mother.

The restaurant’s owner, known as Soh Pu, revealed that the elderly man initially sought work at the establishment during the Covid-19 pandemic but there were no vacancies at the time. The old man, however, left a lasting impression by stating that he was always available should a position ever become available.

As the restaurant saw an increase in customers post the Songkran festival, the elderly man was invited to join the team. He accepted the offer and now commutes a considerable distance from Rama 9 to Phetkasem, using public transportation.

Soh Pu explained that he decided to offer the elderly man a job as he was moved by his situation.

“I could see that he was trying to support his elderly mother while also dealing with his health issues. I wanted to help however I could.”

The elderly man works part-time during the weekends and his duties include washing dishes and vegetables, which are not too strenuous for his age, reported KhaoSod.

The old man’s work ethic is commendable, as he never shies away from any task and often offers to help with small chores. He is also known to bring gifts for his fellow workers, such as bags of tofu, demonstrating his generous nature.

Soh Pu admires the elderly man’s industriousness, despite his age and personal circumstances. He reiterates to his latest employee to only work as much as he can handle and not to overexert himself.

One of the elderly man’s colleagues, Chef Nong, also praises his dedication to his job.

“From the moment he started working here, Grandpa has shown great commitment. He needs to take medication regularly for his health condition, so I make sure he gets proper meals. I shared his story because I was inspired by his determination to earn a living and his relentless fight against life’s odds.”
