Northeast Thailand: Knife-wielding man causes chaos at school in Khon Kaen

A shocking incident occurred at a school in Khon Kaen when a mentally disturbed man wielding a knife chased teachers and students around the flagpole, leading to injuries. The man was later apprehended by the police. The incident took place at 8.30am, at Ban Namphu Hin Lat School in Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum province.

The man, identified as 37 year old Reungrit (surname withheld) was reportedly behaving erratically. He rode his motorcycle into the school premises while carrying a knife. Upon entering the school, he began yelling and waving his knife around, chasing the teachers and students who were participating in the flag-raising ceremony.

The teachers quickly instructed the students to run and take shelter inside the school buildings. Amid the chaos, a teacher was slightly injured by the knife.

Reungrit then fled the scene and took refuge in his house located near the school. It took more than an hour for the combined efforts of the Khon Kaen rescue team, hospital staff, and local police to apprehend him. Once under control, he was taken to Khon Kaen Hospital for detailed physical examination and close supervision by hospital and police officials, reported KhaoSod.

Reungrit refused to disclose the motive behind his actions. It is reported that he has a history of mental illness. Currently, he is under close observation at Khon Kaen Hospital, with the police and hospital staff closely monitoring his condition.
