Deceptive man nabbed for attempted abduction in Chon Buri
A 28 year old man, claiming to be an assistant secretary to a minister, was caught attempting to abduct a 19 year old woman at a petrol station in Chon Buri. The young woman’s father ingeniously set a trap, leading to the man’s arrest.
Officers at the Mueang Chon Buri Police Station received a report last night about a group of locals detaining a man at a petrol station on the city’s bypass road. On arrival, officers found the alleged perpetrator, Methaphan, seated on a bench near the restrooms.
A search of his belongings revealed two boxes of condoms, lubricant, scissors, and black tape. These items suggested an intent to harm, raising alarms about potential malicious intentions.
The young woman, identified as Aey, was found crying at the scene, accompanied by her father, Ek (a pseudonym). Methaphan admitted to contacting Aey through Instagram, where he presented himself as a person of influence to gain her trust.
He persuaded her to meet at the petrol station, unaware that her father had devised a plan to catch him. Methaphan claimed his false identity to appear more credible.
Aey recounted that initially, she ignored the man’s messages but became alarmed as his advances grew frequent and harassing. Seeking her father’s advice, they planned to expose Methaphan’s deceit.
Her father instructed her to agree to the meeting while he and his friends prepared to intervene. The man had falsely portrayed himself as an assistant to a minister, a condominium broker, and a stock trader, all in an attempt to impress and mislead her.
Despite the planned interception, Aey expressed fear upon discovering the sinister items Methaphan carried. The presence of scissors and black tape, alongside condoms, suggested intentions beyond a mere meeting.
Her father, Ek, expressed concern for her safety had she met the man alone. He underscored the importance of vigilance in the digital age, where criminals often disguise themselves with impressive profiles to lure unsuspecting individuals, reported KhaoSod.
“My daughter told me how this man pretended to be a minister’s assistant. I wanted to uncover his true identity, so I convinced my daughter to help us catch him since he used the names of important people to deceive her.
“If my daughter had gone alone, who knows what might have happened? It’s a reminder for parents to watch over their children closely, especially daughters, as social media can be a dangerous place with people who have bad intentions.”
Police took Methaphan into custody along with the incriminating items for further investigation at Mueang Chon Buri Station. They aim to proceed with legal action to ensure justice is served.
