Intoxicated driver crashes pickup into motorcycles in Nonthaburi

A serious traffic incident occurred when a heavily intoxicated driver crashed his pickup truck into five motorcycles, leaving four people injured. The chaotic scene unfolded early today in Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district, with the driver attempting to flee before being apprehended at a nearby auto repair shop.

Officers from Pak Kret Police Station received reports of the crash at around 3am, today, December 18, involving a pickup truck and motorcycles at the entrance of Prachachuen-Pak Kret 5 alley, Khlong Kluea subdistrict. Upon arrival, they found four motorcycles severely damaged and piled up, with three injured individuals lying nearby.

Rescuers quickly attended to the victims, while another damaged motorcycle, a Yamaha NMAX, was discovered about 20 metres away, lying on its side and obstructing the road.

The pickup truck driver, identified as 34 year old Panjapol, displayed signs of severe intoxication and was attempting to escape the scene. However, a group of bystanders and police managed to detain him.

Despite his initial denials of fleeing, he was taken into custody. During police questioning of witnesses and documentation of the damage, Panjapol momentarily slipped away, prompting a search.

Officers eventually found him hiding in darkness and, after another unsuccessful escape attempt, apprehended him at an auto repair shop. Handcuffs were used to secure him before he was taken to the Pak Kret Police Station for an alcohol test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 235 milligrams percent.

Adisorn, a 21 year old Samaritan, reported that the red Ford pickup truck had exited Prachachuen-Pak Kret 5 alley and collided with an electric motorcycle. This collision injured 40 year old Angkool, who was riding the motorcycle.

Adisorn recounted that he, along with other riders and bystanders, stopped to assist when suddenly a black Yamaha NMAX motorcycle approached at high speed, striking the slowing pickup truck and causing it to lose control. This second collision resulted in the motorcycle crashing into the group of helpers, adding to the injuries at the scene, reported KhaoSod.

The injured individuals were transported to several hospitals, including Krom Chonprathan Hospital, Mongkut Hospital, and Krung Thai Pak Kret Hospital.
