Car accident in Samut Songkhram leaves two children orphaned
A tragic accident claimed the lives of a married couple when a car veered off course and collided with their motorcycle yesterday, December 12, in Samut Songkhram, leaving their two children orphaned.
The incident occurred as the family was on their way to buy groceries for their bedridden grandmother. The driver of the car, visibly shaken and frightened, repeatedly expressed remorse, insisting the accident was unintentional.
The accident took place on the Amphawa-Bang Nok Kwaek Road in Bang Khonthi district. Officers from the Bang Khonthi Police Station, accompanied by a medical examiner and rescue personnel, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of 53 year old Kuson Chongkolrot and his 35 year old wife Wilaiporn Kongnuch. Kuson’s injuries included bleeding from his left ear, a large shoulder wound, and a severe abdominal tear.
Wilaiporn suffered a broken right leg, abrasions, and a broken neck due to the impact of a parked Mazda pickup truck.
Nearby, a severely damaged blue Honda Wave motorcycle was found, with its basket detached and holding a bag of fresh pork. Approximately 50 metres away, a black Toyota Yaris was found submerged in a canal.
The driver, 40 year old Warisara was in shock, crying, and sustained chest injuries. She was promptly taken to Napalai Hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness, 38 year old Eakthida Chanpipop, recounted the incident. She was at her shop when she heard a loud crash. Turning to look, she saw the motorcycle riders being thrown against the parked pickup truck. Subsequently, the car plunged into the canal.
“I spoke with the driver, and she mentioned that she dozed off, causing the car to lose control and collide with the oncoming motorcycle. She was in the water before she realised what had happened.”
Eakthida helped Warisara to her shop, where the driver, still in shock, kept repeating that she did not intend for the accident to happen.
Initial investigations revealed that Kuson and Wilai Phorn lived with the latter’s elderly, bedridden grandmother. They were also responsible for two sons, one in high school and the other in primary school.
The couple was returning home after buying fresh ingredients for dinner when Warisara’s car, reportedly heading back from errands, crossed lanes and struck their motorcycle.
Police have since transported the bodies to Ratchaburi Hospital’s forensic department for autopsy. The case continues to be under investigation to determine the full circumstances leading to the unfortunate collision, reported KhaoSod.
