Bullet banquet: Politician’s son shot dead at market feast

A politician’s son was shot dead and two others were injured in a brutal daylight attack during the grand opening of a new market in Samut Prakan. The gunman, a man with a grudge, unleashed a hail of bullets at a Chinese banquet, sending guests fleeing in terror.

The lunchtime bloodbath erupted at around midday today, April 4, at Ton Sai Market, next to the Bang Yo Subdistrict Administrative Organisation on Phet Hung Road. Phra Pradaeng police officers raced to the scene after reports that nearly ten shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, officers found one man dead at the scene, while two others, one with a critical head wound, were rushed to hospital.

Nearby, a black Toyota Camry riddled with bullet holes and a damaged pickup truck bore the scars of the attack. Police recovered at least eight bullet casings as they secured the area for forensic analysis.

The scene, which had been set for celebration, was left in chaos. Tables laden with food and drink were abandoned as the party for the market’s grand opening turned into a crime scene.

The suspected gunman, identified only as Mr Bird, is believed to be around 30 years old. He fled immediately after the shooting but police say they know his identity and are closing in on him.

According to investigators, the attack stemmed from a long-running feud involving the market caretaker’s subordinates. The slain man was the son of Kamnan Khao, a local political figure and member of the Bang Krachao Subdistrict Administrative Organisation.

Police are now hunting for the suspect while piecing together the full details of the deadly dispute that turned a market celebration into a scene of horror, Amarin TV reported.
