Residents of Nang Rong district, Buriram province, were astounded by the miraculous revival of an 85 year old woman, who came back to life 40 minutes after being pronounced dead.

The elderly woman, identified as Phua Sriphadung, surprised her family as she sat up during preparations for her body to be moved to a nearby temple for religious ceremonies. She claimed a monk escorted her back, and she displayed unusual behaviour, reminiscent of a child.

Yesterday, February 9, local news sources reported the extraordinary incident involving Phua, affectionately known as Taeow by her family. The event took place on the evening of February 5, around 9pm, when Phua was found unresponsive, leading her family to assume she had passed away.

They gathered to pay their respects and contacted rescue services for assistance in transporting her body.

After about 40 minutes, Phua unexpectedly sat up, astonishing her family and neighbours. Her granddaughter, Sommai Laiad, a 50 year old who usually cares for Phua, recounted the event.

She shared that Phua described meeting a monk who walked her back, which left everyone bewildered, as they had believed Phua to be dead. Strangely, Phua’s demeanour changed after her revival, exhibiting childlike tendencies such as wanting to be carried and craving sweets.

Her family believes this miraculous revival might be attributed to her accumulated good karma, and they promptly arranged for a monk to perform religious rites at their home, fulfilling Phua’s desire to make merit.

The news team also spoke with Phra Ajarn Laosak Warasapho, the abbot of Wat Pa Amphawan Khunanusorn in Nang Rong. He mentioned being surprised by Phua’s petite stature, standing at just 112 centimetres and weighing approximately 15 kilogrammes.

Despite her appearance, Phua was coherent, though her childish behaviour was noted. The monk remarked that such occurrences, where individuals revive after being declared dead, have historical precedence, though he had not personally witnessed them before, reported KhaoSod.

He suggested that Phua’s wish to make merit might be a final request, as she might not have much time left. The monk acknowledged that such beliefs are deeply personal, rooted in faith, karma, and spiritual convictions.
