Former Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra expressed his intention to address any inquiries or accusations made against him during the upcoming censure debate, anticipated to take place at the end of this month or early next month.

Although he will not be physically present in the chamber to provide an immediate response, Thaksin assured reporters of his readiness to reply if his name is mentioned. He emphasised his right to choose how he would respond, noting that it should not be a cause for concern.

Thaksin, often accused by critics of manipulating the current government led by his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, mentioned that he might be in proximity to Parliament during the no-confidence session, preparing his response.

The opposition has recently clashed with the government over the duration of the censure debate, advocating for five full days. In contrast, the government has signalled its willingness to agree to only three days.

When asked by reporters if he intended to form a team to immediately counter censure allegations, Thaksin advised them to remain calm and relaxed.

The former PM expressed confidence in his daughter’s ability to handle the questioning, stating she had gained significant experience and practice, making the process straightforward for her.

The 75 year old also mentioned he was not worried about the controversy surrounding his stay in a premium ward at Police General Hospital instead of prison detention being discussed.

Additionally, he noted that the government would address doubts over contentious policies, including those aimed at reducing pollution, constructing entertainment complexes, or cutting power supply to five areas in Myanmar linked to organised crime, reported Bangkok Post.

In other news, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul countered assertions that Thaksin has lost his political influence. The deputy PM maintains that Thaksin continues to wield significant political power.
