A brown coffin that drifted along with floodwaters in Chiang Mai has been collected by the municipal officials and taken to the Nong Pratheep cemetery. The coffin, which was found near Montfort College Secondary School in Tha Sala, Chiang Mai, was initially spotted by a local who posted a photo on the Chiang Mai 108 CM108 Facebook group, urging the owner to retrieve it.

The water levels in the area have been steadily decreasing, and the coffin was found under a tree by the roadside. The post quickly gained attention as the community was concerned about the unusual sight. The poster indicated the location and mentioned their reluctance to move the coffin due to its eerie nature.

Chiang Mai Mayor Asanee Buranupakorn later posted an update, confirming that the coffin was empty and unused. Municipal staff were dispatched to the scene to examine the coffin and subsequently transported it to the Nong Pratheep cemetery for safekeeping. The officials have also issued a public notice for the owner to come forward and collect the coffin, reported KhaoSod.

In related news, a tragic discovery was made on October 4, when the carcass of an elephant was found washed up near an elephant camp in Chiang Mai following severe flooding. This incident highlights the urgent need for improved animal management during natural disasters.

The flooding, which occurred in several areas of Chiang Mai province, particularly impacted the region of Mae Taeng, where numerous elephant care centres and camps are located. Reports indicate that some elephants were swept away by the floodwaters.

Kanajana Silpa-archa, an advisor to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, shared a post on Facebook confirming the sad news.

“It has been reported that the carcass of an elephant has washed up near Mae Taeng elephant camp. It’s heartbreaking, and we still don’t know where it came from.”
