Burning rubber: Blazing inferno engulfs Bangkok car plant
In the early hours of this morning, chaos descended upon a renowned car assembly company in Lat Krabang, Bangkok, as a ferocious fire lit up the capital’s sky.
Police Lieutenant Jirayu Wongsingh, an investigator from Chok Chai Noi Police Station, was jolted into action with reports of a blaze ripping through the company premises on Luang Phaeng Road, Thap Yao subdistrict, at precisely 5.20am, today, January 31.
As emergency services rushed to the scene, Lat Krabang’s firefighters, backed by volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, faced a towering inferno engulfing a four-storey structure.
This wasn’t just any building, it was a storage hub crammed with car assembly equipment and a line-up of vehicles primed for delivery. To make matters worse, dangerous quantities of thinner and chemical solvents were on site, fuelling the flames into a raging beast.
The fire, which sparked to life on the third floor, showed no mercy as it mercilessly devoured its way upwards, wreaking havoc until the fourth floor was a roaring inferno. Witnesses likened the scene to a battlefield, with relentless explosions echoing, each one a fiery punctuation mark in a devastating morning saga.
Incredibly, first reports offered a glimmer of relief amid the devastation: Initial checks showed no casualties or people trapped inside.
Firefighters homed in on taming the flames, all while orchestrating the rescue of several finished vehicles, a valiant bid to save what they could from the combustible chaos.
As the smoke clears, investigators are piecing together the puzzle to pinpoint what sparked the blaze and just how deep the charred scars run in terms of damage.
In related news, two weeks ago a fire engulfed a timber warehouse in the Bang Po area, causing millions in damages, with the Bang Sue district preparing a temporary shelter for affected residents. The fire broke out on January 18 at a timber facility on Pracharat Sai 1 Soi 23 in the Bang Sue district, Bangkok.
Fire and rescue teams from Bang Po deployed over 10 fire trucks and managed to control the blaze after more than two hours.
