The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for a summer storm affecting 25 provinces, including Bangkok, predicting heavy rain in 40% of the area. Strong winds and hail are also expected, with a subsequent drop in temperatures today, March 17.

A high-pressure system from China is currently affecting the upper northeastern region, anticipated to expand to cover the north, central, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and eastern regions. This weather pattern, combined with the ongoing heat in upper Thailand, is expected to result in thunderstorms, strong winds, hailstones, and possibly lightning in some locations.

Following the storm, temperatures are forecast to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the northeastern region, accompanied by strong winds. In the north, central, including Bangkok, and eastern regions, a decrease of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius is expected.

Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly avoiding open areas and unstable structures during thunderstorms. Farmers are encouraged to secure crops and livestock against potential damage and to maintain health amid changing weather conditions.

Easterly and southeasterly winds are affecting the Gulf of Thailand, southern region, and the Andaman Sea, leading to isolated thunderstorms in the south. In the lower Gulf, waves are expected to reach 1 to 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in stormy areas. Sailors are advised to avoid navigating in storm-affected areas.

Regarding air quality, the accumulation of dust and haze in upper Thailand ranges from good to moderate due to rainfall and increased wind strength. However, the northern region still experiences moderate to high levels due to weaker winds.
