Storm alert: Thailand soaked as heavy rain triggers flood fears

Bangkok forecast: 60% thunderstorms, hot temperatures, light southwesterly winds

The Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasted increased rainfall across Thailand, particularly affecting the eastern, upper northeastern, and southwestern regions, warning locals to be cautious of heavy rain and potential accumulation.

In Bangkok, residents can expect rain in the afternoon and evening, with a 60% chance.

The intensified southwest monsoon, which covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, is the cause of the current weather conditions. The sea in the upper Andaman and upper Gulf of Thailand is experiencing moderate waves, reaching 1-2 metres, and areas with thunderstorms may see waves exceeding 2 metres. Mariners are advised to exercise caution, especially in thunderstorms, and avoid these areas.

The weather forecast is as follows:

In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area, predominantly affecting provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phetchabun. In the northeastern region, 60% of the area will experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in some locations such as Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will be between 24-26°C and 32-36°C, with southwesterly winds at 10-20 km/h.
