More rain: Thunderstorms and downpours continue to hit Thailand

Bangkok faces thunderstorms, heavy rain, temperatures from 26–36°C

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for today, forecasting increased rainfall across Thailand, with heavy showers expected in the north, east, and south. The northeast will experience particularly severe conditions. Residents are advised to remain cautious.

The intensified southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure area over northern Vietnam, is responsible for the adverse weather conditions. The Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to have moderate sea conditions, with wave heights of 1 to 2 metres, and exceeding 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas.

In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are anticipated to affect 40% of the region, with heavy rain in provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 35°C, with southwest winds at speeds of 5 to 15 km/h.

The northeast will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rainfall in provinces like Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Temperatures will vary between 23°C and 35°C, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
