Strong waves warning in Krabi, Andaman Sea, and Gulf of Thailand
The Nopparat Thara Beach National Park in Krabi issued a weather warning for high waves, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. The park has advised caution for all marine activities within its jurisdiction.
Thapanee Ariyudomwong, head of Nopparat Thara Beach-Phi Phi Islands National Park, announced the weather warning and urged careful conduct of tourism activities during the period of storms and strong winds.
This announcement followed the Thai Meteorological Department’s (TMD) advisory yesterday, concerning heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds and waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, which are expected to persist until September 6.
The strong monsoon trough is predicted to move down, passing over the northern, northeastern, and upper central parts of Thailand, accompanied by the southwestern monsoon that prevails over the Andaman Sea. Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to increase in intensity.
The waves and wind in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are quite strong. Waves are reaching 2 to 3 metres and, in areas with thunderstorms, the waves could exceed 3 metres.
Meanwhile, in the lower Andaman Sea and the lower Gulf of Thailand, strong waves are expected to reach 1 to 2 metres, and in areas with thunderstorms, the waves could exceed 2 metres reported KhaoSod.
Boat operators in these areas are advised to navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. For small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, it is advisable to refrain from leaving shore.
Thapanee stated that the Nopparat Thara Beach-Phi Phi Islands National Park issued the warning after careful consideration for safety and to prevent potential water accidents that could happen during heavy rainfall and strong waves.
They urge everyone to exercise caution while conducting tourism activities or any activities in all marine tourism areas within the Nopparat Thara Beach-Phi Phi Islands National Park. It is also advised that boat operators check all readiness have life jackets on at all times while on the boat and during water activities, and closely follow the weather warning reports of the TMD.
