Heavy rains forecast in 39 Thai provinces, including Bangkok
Rising waters threaten daily life as storms sweep across Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for August 27, forecasting heavy rains in 39 provinces, including Bangkok, with 80% of the area expected to experience significant rainfall. Residents are advised to remain vigilant against flash floods and forest run-offs.
Due to the monsoon trough passing through Myanmar into a low-pressure area in northern Thailand, coupled with moderate southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, these weather conditions are expected to bring strong winds and waves.
In the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves could reach heights of approximately 2 metres and over 2 metres in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
In the lower Andaman Sea, waves are expected to be between 1 and 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in stormy regions. Sailors are urged to exercise caution and avoid navigating through stormy areas.
In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are predicted in 80% of the region, with heavy rain in specific areas such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 21°C to 32°C with southwesterly winds at speeds of 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.
The northeastern region will see thunderstorms across 70% of the area, with heavy rain expected in areas like Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, and Khon Kaen. Temperatures are expected to be between 22°C and 33°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.

Central Thailand, including Bangkok, is expected to have thunderstorms in 60% of the region, with heavy rain in provinces such as Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 33°C, and winds will be southwesterly at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
In eastern Thailand, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 33°C, with southwesterly winds at 20 to 35 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves around 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.
The eastern coast of southern Thailand will see thunderstorms in 40% of the region, particularly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Chumphon. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 35°C.
From Surat Thani upwards, southwesterly winds will blow at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour, with waves at 1 to 2 metres, and over 2 metres in stormy areas. From Nakhon Si Thammarat downwards, the winds will be 15 to 30 kilometres per hour with 1-metre waves, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore and higher in thunderstorms.
On the western coast of the south, 60% of the area will experience thunderstorms with heavy rain in Ranong and Phang Nga. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 34°C.
From Phang Nga upwards, winds will be southwesterly at 20 to 35 kilometres per hour with 2-metre-high waves, rising higher in thunderstorms. From Phuket downwards, winds will be 15 to 35 kilometres per hour with waves of 1 to 2 metres, increasing in stormy conditions, reported KhaoSod.
In Bangkok and the surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some areas. Temperatures will be between 25°C and 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.
