Heavy rain alert issued for 51 Thai provinces, flash floods possible

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather forecast for the next 24 hours, indicating heavy rainfall in 51 provinces across Thailand, particularly in Bangkok, the metropolitan area, northeastern, central, eastern, and the western coast of the southern region. The public is advised to be cautious of potential flash floods and overflowing waterways due to accumulated rainfall.
Northern Thailand will encounter thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with heavy rain in specific provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will vary from 23 to 24°C to 30 to 34°C.
The northeastern region will see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some provinces like Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani experiencing heavy rainfall. Temperatures are expected to be between 22 and 24°C and 31and 34°C.
In the central region, 70% of the area will experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in provinces such as Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi. The temperature will range from 23 to 24°C to 34 to 36°C.
Eastern Thailand will have thunderstorms affecting 70% of the area, with very heavy rain in provinces like Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will be between 24 and 25°C and 31 and 35°C. Sea waves are expected to be around 2 metres high, with higher waves in thunderstorm areas.
The eastern coast of the southern region will experience thunderstorms over 40% of the area, mostly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Temperature lows will be 23 to 25°C, and highs will be 33 to 35°C. Sea waves are predicted to be between 1 and 2 metres, rising to 2 metres offshore and higher in thunderstorm areas.
Heavy rain
On the western coast of the southern region, 70% of the area will face thunderstorms, with very heavy rain expected in Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C to 30 to 35°C.
From Phuket northwards, sea waves are anticipated to be 2 to 3 metres high, exceeding 3 metres in thunderstorm areas. South of Krabi, waves will be about 2 metres, increasing in height during thunderstorms.
In Bangkok and the surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected to cover 70% of the region, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 25 to 26 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, reported KhaoSod.
